Population growth, urban development, economic issues and examples like this, have led to the disappearance of the meaning of home as a place for living and achieving peace in apartment life.

This is especially true in smaller residential apartments. The house itself is a manifestation of meeting the needs of consumers and, more importantly, a space to stay. This sense of belonging was missing in client’s aspects of mind.

In this project, client’s demands from the beginning were to redefine the main zoning of the building and change the sense and nature of the unit’s spaces.

This project was presented to our office in the mid-March 2019. An apartment with an area of 65 square meters located in a 12-year-old building in the Saadatabad, Tehran.

The client expressed all her demand consciously with a perfect understanding of space, and we only tried to see them through a more architectural sight.

The existence of the long and narrow corridor in the entrance zone was one of the main problems in this house.

The elements next to this zone were the restroom’s door and a window. There was a narrow space at the end of this corridor that was filled with the dining table, but this space was practically useless and had increased the length of the corridor.

This issue and the main proportions of the plan led us to reach the idea of the linear kitchen, and this kind of kitchen while placing more cabinets, did not decrease the house width.in result, this kind of kitchen organization was so useful and was able to gain the natural light from the window by; moreover, the linear lighting completed its design.

Therefore, the house could have two salons and a proper kitchen, and as client wished; finally, the house became a home.

In the design of this project, orientation of the bathroom was rotated and the useless corridor in front of that was removed. Then this bathroom was specifically extended to the bedroom area, whilst having a linear design, bedroom space can be used the most.

At the end of the bedroom, a balcony, which was actually a storage room, caught our attention, and finally turned into a walk-in closet with a new window.

The existing corridor in front of the bathroom used to be responsible for transmitting the created airflow to the extent that after removing it, a separate system was created for its ventilation.

The 65-meter apartment, which had 15 meters of unused space, is now quite useful, and the spaces are located next to each other with the right connection. The attempts were minimal destruction with maximum efficiency.

We only tried to make this place feel like a home, and we did not focus on anything luxurious. Any place can be at its best if only understood well.
